AOBOZU is a rock band from Odawara, Kanagawa.
In 1999 Shin-ichi Fujimori (B.) and hozzy (Vo.) who were high-school students began to call themselves Blue Bozu and to cover tunes by Blue Hearts.
In 2001 Yu-ichi Tanaka (G.) whofs a friend of Fujimori from their nursery school time joined them, when the band name became AOBOZU. They started gigs around their hometown Odawara, Hachioji, and Shimokitazawa.
After an album and two singles from an indie label, the band made their debut in the major scene with the album gHiroshige Blueh (May 2004), which ranked 30th on the Oricon weekly chart, and toured nationwide.
In March 2005 the band with the brand new member Takuro Watanabe (D.) released a single gUzurah, which ranked 35th on the Oricon weekly single chart. Again touring nationwide, the album gSodah followed in May (29th on the Oricon weekly album chart). In July of the year they finished the tour with their first one-man gig at Shibuya O-WEST. Shortly after the single gSpoonh in November which ranked 40th on the Oricon single chart, they carried out a complete one-man tour for the first time successfully at Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo where all tickets sold out.
In March 2006 they released the single gSakura no ashiatoh (28th on the weekly single chart), which was shortly followed by the album gHanamidorih (26th on the weekly album chart). This time they finished the nationwide tour with the gig at Ebisu Liquidroom where tickets sold out. Audiences of over a thousand would definitely remember the touching performance on that day.
Songs are written by hozzy (Vo.) and Fujimori (B.), and arranged by the band. They have been self-producing not only sounds but also art directions. They have been working out with a designer each time, to commit ideas of jacket artwork, posters, and other merchandise goods. hozzy has been illustrating disks, tray-cards inside, and T-shirts since the single gSpoonh, and the cover jacket of the single gHello Good Byeh released in October 2006 (19th on the weekly single chart).
Touching melodies, lyrics expressing daily details close to everyone, qualified performance skills established through repetition of gigs, and clear vocalization. This attractive band is prominence among many new comers, and their reality of rock has been gathering an attention. AOBOZU will go its own way to the world of simple and sweet but a bit melancholic sounds.
