CORNER was firstly started in 2003 as the solo project by Masafumi Isobe, who was the renowned vocalist / guitarist of Husking Bee. CORNER was named so to be some space where everyone could come over and drop in. The first album “Hashiru Namakemono “, which means a rushing sloth, containing many fruitful encounters with musicians and other artists, was released in August 2003. The album, based on acoustic sounds, but not rejecting electric, filled with witty and thrilling tracks, showed sufficiently Isobe’s unique and unforgettable sensibility, both literal and musical. Beside that album CORNER has been called by many compilation albums for original or cover tracks, one of them was “my favorite song writers” (Five One Inc., 2004) released both in US and Japan.
CORNER has been performing at any place, from a small cafe or a civil event to big festivals including Fuji Rock (03), Rock In Japan (05 and 06), and Count Down Japan (05-06), sometimes in a form of full band with his friend musicians, and the other times by Isobe alone only with his acoustic guitar.
After Husking Bee disbanded in March 2005, and through the year of 2006, CORNER did shows more frequently than before. Meanwhile members of the band beside Isobe have been fixed; Etsushi Ito (guitar), Makoto Kawabe (bass), Takashi Kashikura (drums), and Tadahiro Imatani (keyboard, percussions, etc). Through repetition of thrilling and moving performances, many songs have grown. In May 2006, they released “single-01” from ini records, which was shortly followed by their long-awaited full-length original album “Iriguchi Deguchi”, i.e. ‘way in way out’ in July.
