melody. was born in Hawaii, U.S.A., in February 1982. Her parents are Japanese but by being brought up in Hawaii she has become a lady familiar with both, the American culture and the Japanese spirit. As a bilingual, she grew up listening to Japanese children's / pop songs, Celine Dion, TLC, and Destiny's Child etc. and had achieved a broad musical sensibility. From taking ballet lessons (and also HIP HOP, JAZZ DANCE), piano lessons and vocal training in her childhood, she dreamed to become a "singer". At the age of sixteen, with her nature of beauty, she started modeling and passed competitive auditions as a Hawaiian model to appear on Japanese commercials.
In February of 2003, her long-cherished desire to be a singer came true with a single "Dreamin' Away" dropped in Japan. It was when she came into sudden prominence, especially with her clear and beautiful voice which was acclaimed as the "platinum voice". In October, she was featured as a singer "miss you" by m-flo, who's the most magnificent unit in Japanese Hip Hop-Dance music, and her stunning vocalization attracted a great deal of attention in the scene. She became an enormously popular icon among females in their twenties through early thirties, because of happy and positive lyrics by her own, and of her frank characteristics with great sensibility.
"I've expressed both American and Japanese halves of me in this unbounded album, which is far beyond any nation nor any genre", so she told about her first album "Sincerely" (January, 2004), which reached the third of Oricon chart in its first week. Then the DVD album "Sincerely Yours" followed in May, reaching the fourth. Soon after that her fourth single "Believe me", of its English and Japanese versions released at the same time, attracted widespread attention again. Thus melody. has achieved a solid reputation as a singer among many incoming and outgoing divas in the scene.
In April 2006, her long-awaited second full-length album "Be as one" ranked the fifth place of Oricon chart. In addition to that, she has completed her first solo tour at Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. Her 8th single "Lovin' U" (November 2006) was featuring big tie-ins including the theme song for the game "Need For Speed Carbon", the latest edition of the world-famous game series, in which melody. was cast as Yumi Yamamoto. The 9th single "Finding My Road" (February 2007) was featured in CF for FORESTER by Subaru, in which melody. herself was also featured. Her present aim is to become a successful singer both in US and Japan.
