OVERGROUND ACOUSTIC UNDERGROUND was formed in June, 2005.
MARTIN, a Scottish American from Florida, takes the lead vocal, plays the guitar, violin, and mandolin. As he was brought up among music, with his parents both musicians, he has been playing the violin since three years old. He won the Grand Prix at a violin competition of Florida when he was a junior high-school student. Then he dedicated his junior high- and high-school life to playing the guitar, and that brought him to Japan when he was 19 years old. The guitarist first met a studio percussionist KAKUEI (plays the conga, bongos, steel drums, timbales, paticas, and so on) at a gig by Fat Boy Slim. Immediately they became close friends as they found they had a mutual friend. They had enjoyed jam sessions at home since then.
A turning point occurred in 2004; MARTIN met TOSHI-LOW whofd become another vocalist and the guitarist of OVERGROUND ACOUSTIC UNDERGROUND later.
In those days MARTIN talked his dream of his career over with TOSHI-LOW. After many discussions they hit it off and came to the conclusion that they will gdo it together!h The first thing for them was to decide if they should form a band, or if they should just play in a unit as a part time project. MARTIN, in spite of his long career, had never formed any band of his own. As they decided to form a band in which all members could be rather equal, MARTIN called KAKUEI to join, and TOSHI-LOW called MAKOTO (bass), RONZI (drums), and KOHKI (guitar) who were the remaining members of his own band BRAHMAN on the other hand. Around a year after the first meeting of MARTIN and TOSHI-LOW, in June, 2005, all members of the band came together in the studio. Since then they have created their repertories one by one.
One day TOSHI-LOW received an offer to put a track into an omnibus album celebrating the tenth anniversary of 7STARS, a graphic designersf office in Tokyo; the album entitled gThe Basement Tracks -10YEARS SOUNDTRACK OF 7STARSh (2005). The work on it was their first studio recording, and the band performed for the first time at Shimokitazawa440 in September, 2005. Doing many live shows, they released the first album on July 12, 2006. After that album they vigorously participated in big summer rock festivals in Japan, and they performed a first tour in Japan.
